Y1 Curriculum Overview

Year 1 enjoyed a trip to Martin Mere this week. They were so well behaved they were awarded a certificate for their behaviour today.

We had a memorable time with Rev. Tony at the Methodist Church. He performed a mock baptism for us, complete with parents and Godparents. Afterwards we enjoyed a celebration.

We had a special visitor - The Lady with the Lamp

Year 1 loved our Pentecost day in school and enjoyed the activities we did.

In this lovely sunshine we have hunted for equal groups outside and written corresponding repeated addition sentences. Our science topic inspired us to make models showing a plants different parts and during PE we have perfected our overarm throwing. PSHE lessons have led to us exploring and celebrating our differences.

A busy week in Y1 this week. We’ve been measuring with non-standard and standard units, forecasting the weather and writing diary entries (complete with quills) about The Great Fire of London.

This week we created a beautiful display for our Easter Prayer Walk. We enjoyed creating butterflies as a sign of Easter and new life.

We wrote fantastic letters to our Mums and put them inside envelopes on the front of our cards. The results were very special. 3 boys were also inspired to spell out a special message for all our mums with Lego.

Y1 hunted for signs of spring this week.

On Thursday, Y1 enjoyed an exciting visit from The History Man. He really enhanced our topic of The Great Fire of London. It was a wonderful morning of super learning!

Year 1 have had a fantastic World Book Day!

Year 1 Class Worship - Wisdom

Y1's Worship was on this half-term's Christian Value of Wisdom. They taught us how to make wise choices and how we can find wisdom in God's word, The Bible. They acted out the story of the foolish man who built his house on the sand and the wise man who built his house on the rocks. We enjoyed singing along to this and of course loved learning our new song 'W.I.S.D.O.M' with actions. Thank you, Y1, for entertaining us whilst getting across a very important message.

We have had a fabulous shared reading session in school today where each class paired up with another class for half an hour to share new stories and read to each other. Check out the class pages to see more photos.

We spread love in Year 1 this week. We created these beautiful Valentine's Day cards by combining our DT and English lessons.

Year 1 had some special visitors to look after...

To see our trip to 'Imagine That' please check out the gallery page.

Year 1 exploring Stick Man

Year 1 have remembered! We learnt about The Chorley Pals, made poppies and designed a new medal for Remembrance. Look at our amazing display!

Year 1 explored the Jewish festival of Sukkot and built their very own sukkah huts. We decorated them with fruit and then sat inside them to share some chocolate with our friends. It was a fun way to spend a wet Friday afternoon!

Our lovely Year 1 class!
