Once again we have been supporting the Rotary Shoe Box Appeal, helping children in Eastern Europe to have a brighter Christmas.
Last week Year 3 became ‘Howard Carter’ and investigated Tutankhamun’s tomb- and what amazing treasures they found!

This November, we decided to do a 'Book Themed Cafe' for our book fair. Thank you to all who attended, we were very busy! The cakes that entered the competition were very impressive and well done to our two winners for your fabulous cakes!
The Open the Book team joined us for Worship on Tuesday morning to tell us the story of Daniel and the Lions. Some fantastic costumes for the adults and children this week. Let us remember that God protects us all, just like he did with Daniel.
Lest We Forget - Remembrance Service at Church 10.11.19
Year 5 and 6 joined other schools at Bishop Rawstorne High School to listen to a talk from the wonderful Tom Palmer. He was great and played a book quiz with us for the chance to enter a penalty shootout. (We won the trophy!) We can't wait to read some of his other books! (In year 6 the children are very excited about D-Day Dog!)

Year 6 at Blackburn Cathedral for their Diocesan Leavers’ service
Well done to the Year 6 Rounders Team who were Runners Up in the Cluster Rounders Tournament at Eccleston Primary School yesterday. They played with enthusiasm, skill and determination to get through to the exciting final. What a super achievement for all the children involved!
Lancashire Science Festival 2019 Year 5
JUNIOR SPORTS DAY 2019!
We are SO proud of our Y4 Mini Red Tennis Team! After becoming Chorley Champions on Wednesday, an amazing achievement in itself, the team went on to represent Chorley in the Lancashire School Games Finals at South Ribble Tennis Centre. The children played with such skill and determination winning through to the quarter finals as group winners! They then went on to win both the quarter and semi-finals too!! Unbeaten, they reached the finals and after super matches and great sportsmanship, they were awarded Runners Up! Well done! What an excellent day to remember! Thank you to Mr Grice for coaching the team and to everyone who came to support!
Our A team and B team took part in the Chorley Sports Partnership finals at Croston tennis club. They came 1st and 2nd respectively out of a total of 18 schools. Congratulations to EVERYONE who took part.

Huge congratulations to two of our Mini Red Tennis Teams who played their way through to the Finals of the Chorley Sports Partnership Tennis Competition at Croston Tennis Club on Wednesday. Our third team also won to go through to the semi-finals! It was a great achievement all round and we wish the children best of luck for next week!
The Christian holy day of Pentecost celebrations at our school.
Year 5 have been very lucky over the last month; Abi brought caterpillars to school for us. We looked after them and watched them change through metamorphosis into beautiful butterflies. We fed them rotting fruit and sugar water and decided it was approprite to release them on D-Day. Thank you, Abigail and family!
Thanks to Cal and Dennis from the prison team for coming in today. We enjoyed learning about what life would be like in prison and won't be taking our freedom for granted anymore.
Year 5 enjoyed a day at Westholme's annual STEM competition! Well done! We enjoyed 4 tasks throughout the day and came second out of 18 in one of the tasks.

Day 3 of 'Arts Week'! We loved trying new sports and even learning a few 'old' games!
Day 2 of 'Arts Week' involved learning a Shakespeare play in just half an hour. Each class acted out a section to create the play. Well done, children!
Day 1 - Creative Day
We met in the morning for a fabulous introduction from Mrs Birchall. We looked at the plan for the week and the reasons why we were celebrating 'Best of British' this week. We spoke about the British Values and our Christian Values in school.
Each class focused on a famous British artist; please see each class page to see their work.
We all came together later in the day and enjoyed listening to the choir sing British songs to us. They also loved hearing us sing our own favourite songs to them.

We had a special treat today thanks to the winners in the Year 5 coding competition at the Chorley Hack. DXC came into our school with virtual reality equipment for the children. Thank you so much DXC!

Cross Country March 2019
What a night! Every child that competed in the race completed the run which is excellent! We all know that running for a long distance is hard.
We are so proud of the children from St Mary's, well done for cheering on the other children and for being happy for everyone. There were roughly 50 children in each race. The boys ran first and we came 3rd, well done, Luke! The girls ran second and we came 1st and 3rd. Well done, Isabel and Yasmin!
Well done to our dancers. Our KS2 dance team were amazing in the dance competition and we even had two solo dancers this year. Very brave to perform on a large stage on your own, well done to all involved!
Thank you to everyone who supported our 'Hot Cross Bun Cafe' on Tuesday afternoon. We raised lots of money and enjoyed seeing the dancers and choir perform.
Wednesday 13th March was ‘Sing Up Day’! We loved starting the day off with ‘The Pop Project.’ It was excellent to see how they related music to well known books by famous authors in our 'Best of British' week! We ended the day listening to a choir who performed a range of songs to us. We loved listening to them and hope they enjoyed our singing!
We won the Chorley Council Coding Competition!
On Friday, 4 children went to a competition in Chorley Town Hall, ‘Chorley Hack’. We arrived early in the morning and spent all day working hard creating an animation about ONLINE SAFETY. We enjoyed workshops about staying safe online and how to use a 3D printer. Once the children had created their animation and PPT presentation, we presented to 3 judges who were very impressed. We loved seeing the other groups present their work. We had a great day and learned lots of new skills. When the awards were presented we were so pleased to find out WE WON, it was amazing. Well done children, we are all so proud of you! We love our Amazon Echo, Amazon vouchers and wireless headphones, thank you. We also can't wait to claim our prize of a virtual reality experience day!
We marked Shrove Tuesday with a traditional Pancake Race this week! Thank you to everyone that helped and came to support, the children loved it.
We have had a fabulous shared reading session in school today where each class paired up with another class for half an hour to share new stories and read to each other. Please check the class pages to see more photos.
These children are our dodgeball team & did very well last night at their competition. WELL DONE!

We had a visit from our local MP today, Seema Kennedy. As a class, each year group thought of questions to ask and our school council members presented these to Mrs Kennedy.

A new set of members began Construction Club this half term. Bridge building was the challenge this week and pupils all loved creating and working together.
Mr Turner came to visit our school from The Royal British Legion. The children loved hearing his stories and now have a much better understanding of life during the war and why we wear a poppy. Thank you, Mr Turner!

Amazing ideas and designs this week in our challenge to build a structure out of lolly sticks and cups. Well done! The club is so popular that it will continue for other children in KS1 next half term.

This week at 'Construction Club' we used cocktail sticks, pasta and marshmallows to build strong structures with. We discovered that the strongest shape is a triangle.
Construction Club Week 3! This week the challenge was to build a marble maze. Mrs Bannister was amazed by our imaginative designs!

All Age Worship
14 children from Y2 - Y6 represented school at the All Age Worship Service at St. Mary's Church. Using a shoe box, some plastic bags and a packet of 'Boost Bites' (!) they delivered the message that, if we want to know who Jesus really is and build up a relationship with him, we must try to learn as much as possible about him. We can do this by going to Church or Jam, listening carefully in school worship and reading the Bible.
